Expose Me!

This weeks Exposure goes to CMD Facebook Fan and client Janet Ogidi with JoJo Studios. Hobbyist turned business woman, we asked Janet to tell us her story. All eyes are on Janet!
My name is Janet Ogidi. I was born in Nigeria but moved to the US when I was younger. People ask how I came up with the name jojostudios and the short story is that it is my initials twice. The long story is I got it from watching the powerpuff girls with my baby sister when she was little. Anyone remember mojojojo? I just liked the name and jojo stuck with me through the years for some reason. Crazy? Yes I know.

{Why and when did you become a photographer?}
I think I’ve always had some sort of photography interest. But the light didn’t come on till I graduated college with an Interior Design degree in 2007 and started looking into expanding my hobbies. I decided to purchase a small point and shoot Nikon camera and practiced with different settings on friends, family, pets etc for hours. Then I upgraded the camera to a Canon Powershot G9 in order to get more features to play with. A couple of months after, I upgraded to a Nikon D5000 then upgraded again to my current camera, the Nikon D90. I’m currently looking into upgrading to the Nikon D700. I guess the upgrades will not be stopping anytime soon.

{What is your most difficult challenge in the business?}
The transitioning portion has been the hardest i.e. transitioning from hobby to business. This started out as a hobby. It was something I just wanted to know more about but now it’s much more than that. I have to educate myself on more than camera settings and know everything there is to know about running a business as a photographer.
{Where would you like to see your talents take you?}
All around the world! I just love love love to travel and I’m hoping I get to travel and document my experiences along the way. I’ve been to a several places since my college days but the memorable ones include Nigeria, Hawaii, London and I’m hoping to go to South Africa and Spain next year.

{Who or what is your biggest source of inspiration?}
I am inspired by many different things. It could be something on TV, driving down the highway, or looking at other photographers’ works. I just get random “a-ha!” moments and try to incorporate that in my projects.
