Artistic Still Life is this weeks inspiration. CMD exposes Brazilian Photographer Julio Canto Chollet. All eyes are on Julio!

Julio Canto Chollet, 46 years old, born in Porto Alegre, Brazil, self-taught photographer since he was 17, when he became interested in researching new techniques and rudimentary homemade photo effects. “I’m more interested in taking still life photographs than landscapes because I can control the light.”

I was part of a small production company in 90’s that had terminated a contract with The Image Bank, now I’m dedicated to digital photography but miss the technique of analogue photography. I know I don’t have a defined technical style and I don’t want to have only one style, each picture is a new vision for me.

I really prefer the creation process, the moment, the idea that fascinates me and always wants to make each picture better than the other. A sense of wonder in each Photo.

I started at 17 years old, I always liked music and movies and felt the need to create my own pictures, something instinctive.

{Who or what is your biggest source of inspiration?}

The covers of the ECM Records (a Jazz label) and my experience working in the office of The Image Bank in Porto Alegre were my greatest sources of inspiration.
