“Trying to be the best at every type of photography is impossible. Portraits, Sports, Landscapes, Events, whatever it may be – I’ve found that trying to learn all of them at once just doesn’t allow me to excel at any of them. When all is said and done, photography is about having fun and capturing important moments that can be remembered forever – so have fun!” -Ryan

“My name is Ryan Denning, I’m 27 years old and I live on the Seacoast of New Hampshire. I’ve been shooting photos and video since 2009. My passion is event and wedding photography but I dabble in Landscape and Sports photography as well”

[Why and when did you become a photographer?]

I started shooting photos in college, during ski season we would trek up to Northern Vermont to go skiing. We would come back with tales of deep powder and epic terrain but no one believed us because we didn’t have any proof. Enter my father’s DSLR, from there we started shooting photos and small videos of each other. Eventually that snowballed (heh) into a business and a lifelong passion.

[How would you describe your style of photography?]

I would say my style of photography is candid, I like to shoot a lot of landscape and action sports but my real passion is artsy photo journalistic style photography, mostly weddings.

[What is the most difficult challenge in the photography business?]

Marketing and sales has been the most difficult challenge for me, I can shoot and edit all day long but if I can’t find the customers – I have no business.

[Who or what is your biggest source of inspiration?]

My inspiration comes from local photographers that I’ve always looked up to. Surfing is a huge part of the culture here on the Seacoast and we have a number of phenomenal water photographers and videographers here that provide endless inspiration. I also spend a lot of time looking at wedding photos, I am a huge fan of Jerry Ghionis.

[Name three favorite things in your camera bag.]

It’s hard to give three favorite things from my camera bag, I have a lot of equipment that gets used on a daily basis. My Gary Fong flash diffuser, my Wescott Icelight and my Canon 85mm lens. Honorable mentions: Zeiss wipes and Singh Ray 3-Stop Reverse Graduated ND Filter.

[Can you share a photography business tip?]

Focus on one thing or the other – trying to be the best at every type of photography is impossible. Portraits, Sports, Landscapes, Events, whatever it may be – I’ve found that trying to learn all of them at once just doesn’t allow me to excel at any of them. When all is said and done, photography is about having fun and capturing important moments that can be remembered forever – so have fun!

[How has your CMD website affected your business?]

My Creative Motion Design website has brought me much more work! The website layout is so easy to use and ascetically pleasing, the service almost sells itself.
